While college life might look like a time of optimism and excitement, they are also times
of are frequently stressful as well. Students are sometimes faced with stressful experiences,
leading to elevated mental issues, including anxiety and depression. Hasin et al. (2018) defined
depression as severe dejection and hopelessness, while anxiety is the feeling of worry, unease,
and nervousness about a forthcoming event or increased uncertainty about outcomes. The
HealthyPlace in Depression Community (2019) indicates that many Americans suffer from
depression, with the CDC reporting 1 out of every 10 persons adults get depressed at any time of
their time. Similarly, HealthyPlace in Anxiety-Panic Community (2019) suggests that anxiety
disorders are the most prevalent mental issues in the U.S., affecting about 13.3%, that is 19.1
million adults of the U.S. population, aged between 18-54.
Students also get depressed and anxious through their academic life due to the pressure
that arises from the desire to excel academically. Such implicate students’ mental health and
society at large, affects their academic performance, causes social disjunction, and promotes
