The current trends in information systems are primarily driven by the shift of focus on consumer
applications and services toward providing value in the service sector, primarily driven by the US’s
economic and economic crisis. The rise of new technologies is not solely about information
services but has also been driven by the Internet, web applications, and Internet applications such
as e-commerce and social networking. It means that the growth in information systems is now
being accompanied by shifting the focus from data mining to analyzing the data (Cantrell et al.,
2020).
In this case, the focus from data mining to a focus on data analysis. In this way, these trends
have been driven by the new technology and industry of data analytics and machine learning to
analyze the data and provide insight. This focus has driven many of the trends, such as the
emergence of data mining techniques and AI algorithms’ rise in the last decade.
The rise of machine learning and other machine learning techniques, such as deep learning,
has shifted to an information service industry. However, the shift to new technology is not limited
to machine learning. In the case of new technologies, new technologies are also influencing the
development and application of new technologies. New technologies are being created, but new
technologies are also changing how the industry operates to create new trends. In this instance, the
trend in information systems has been driven by the development of new technologies, including
deep learning, which can take in information from multiple sources and create a model to help
users solve the problems they want to solve.
It shifts from the traditional approach of extracting information based on data mining
instead of using machine learning algorithms to take in multiple sources. In this sense, data mining
to machine learning has led to new trends in an information system. However, new technologies
and new trends are not limited only to emerging technologies and trends (Beynon-Davies, 2020).

The current trends in information systems as well as how technology changes impact society and
culture. The technology used and the tools we use are the most fundamental building blocks of our
society and culture. They can be used and abused in all types of ways to impact society and culture
negatively. Therefore, there is a need to understand technology more to identify trends that can
harm society, culture, and our ability to function as a society (Liu et al., 2020).
Information systems have mostly been described as information systems. They are used in
all areas of human life in which the categorization (model, timing), storage, and access to
information are essential. Data gathering and information processing is a critical component of
Technology and Information Systems. Technology organizations can be characterized as either
customer-facing or business end-user organizations that actively utilize the knowledge created
from their structure (research, business strategy) to create new solutions, products, and services.
The following are some practical suggestions regarding the technology trends and what
can be done to mitigate some trends to bring about positive change in society, and how technology
impacts society. Technology is moving to open the doors to great learning opportunities with
innovative learning methods referred to as open learning. Essentially, open learning is a new
method and approach for exploring learning methods based on the use of existing technologies
such as artificial intelligence, big data techniques, automation, machine learning, and
dissemination of knowledge by leaders, libraries and workshops, and virtual networks. Among the
various open learning methods, there are those based on old skills such as distributed systems, data
analytics, and distributed systems techniques, open virtual educational environments, training with
human data with closed virtual instructional environments, and virtual reality VR applications that
let students explore fields of learning with touches and poses (Adam et al., 2020).

The current technology trends are that information systems are becoming more and more critical
for society’s functioning. The impact of information systems on society is growing, and we as a
society now face issues about data privacy. Technology is also advancing exponentially, and many
of society’s issues are due to new technologies, such as the Internet of Things, for example. It is
an area where technology is moving very quickly and where it has enormous impacts on society.
The next generation of technology is also moving fast and in a matter of a short span. We have
already witnessed advancements in computing, communication, and communication devices to the
level where they can communicate and interact. It is an area where advances in technology are
rapidly changing everything. We are witnessing the first generation of computers with artificial
intelligence. It will also lead to changes in the way we live, but more significantly, we will need
to think about how we will change ourselves in the future. The next generation of technology will
be a combination of things that are already happening today, but the changes to our way of life
will be profound and will be much more rapid. We are in the beginning stages of the new paradigm,
and it will create new ways to make life better. We have to think of the changes and the impact
that this will have on our society and us. It is not going to be a good outcome if we cannot adapt
ourselves because it will have consequences not just on society but also on our future (Solis &
LePoire, 2020).
There will be some changes that people will have to make on their own and some changes
that people will have to make together. However, it is an unavoidable fact that these changes will
have consequences and that people will have to adapt. We will inevitably have to adapt to the level
of our daily routine. For example, some days, the way it is today will change, and that change will
be unavoidable and inevitable. That means that people will have to adapt to the scale of their daily
life (Berger & Mahdavi, 2020).

Information systems have emerged at a high rate since the beginning of innovations. Today,
organizations and companies can be able to operate their business operation. The Internet’s
deployment has dramatically boosted business ideas and improved computerized systems to
enhance business activities (Bourgeois, s2019). The Internet’s innovation has enhanced business
managers and the entire stakeholders to communicate and share their ideas to support decisionmaking effectively. The implementation of information technology has enhanced globalization,
which implies that information technology has expanded and is widely used worldwide. China is
among the top ten countries that are leading in terms of digitalization.
There are various impacts of information technology in our society as well as our culture.
Firstly, information technology has increased the speed and ease of communication among
individuals. Individuals today can exchange their views and ideas virtually through the
interconnected network and with the aid of communication channels (Skibniewski, 2015). The
exchange of ideas and knowledge has enhanced innovations. There are two side effects in terms
of social impact, i.e., adverse and social impact of Information Technology. Firstly, information
technology has led to the separation of individuals from their families (Ni, Wang & Zhang, 2016).
The main reason behind this is that many people have put more effort into focusing on
globalization, forgetting their relatives and families in society. Secondly, information technology
has influenced the perspectives of individuals about reality. Many people in a society are focus on
modern technology and neglecting traditional models and methodologies.
Information technology has also impacted our culture, both positively and negatively.
Some of the cultural impacts of technology include food, the government, and art. Due to the
promotion of communication channels, people from different countries worldwide can intermix
and share their knowledge and ideas, shaping cultural beliefs and norms. Therefore, the
implementation of the new technologies has enhanced creativity and social awareness around the
globe since people of different races can interact and share their cultural ideas and opinions (Ni,
Wang & Zhang, 2016). As an example of emerging technology, social media has enabled many
individuals to communicate effectively through chats and calls to interact and share business ideas
that can shape organizational culture.

The primary trend is the continual globalization expansion. The utilization of the Internet is
increasing worldwide, and with it is the digital device usage. The development comes from several
unexpected places; nations like Iran and Indonesia are top in the Internet’s growth. Also, the growth
of social media is another trend, which endures. Facebook currently more than one billion
operators! In 2013, approximately eighty percent of Facebook operators were from other nations
and not Canada and the US. Nations where Facebook upsurging consists of the Philippines,
Mexico, and Indonesia (POUSHTER, 2020).
Furthermore, Facebook and other social media websites are likewise viewing a magnificent
development. More than seventy percent of YouTube’s operators are not from the USA, with
Russia, South Korea, France, Canada, Germany, India, and the UK being top. Also, Pinterest
receives more than fifty percent of its users from other nations outer the USA, with over nine
percent from India.
Technology has dramatically affected the way people think, learn, and communicate. It
assists society and regulates how individuals interrelate with one another daily. Moreover,
technology has a significant role in current society. It has both negative and positive impacts on
the world, and it affects people’s lives.

The current trends in information systems: According to Bourgeous, Smith, Wang, and Mortati
(2019), these are some of the relevant areas whose trends have to be looked at closely:
Global: The consolidation of globalization has shrunk the size of the world. The world is more
close-knit now more than ever. The Internet has played a vital role in this trend in globalization
(p.292).
Social: The rise of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others is one
of the most prominent trends of the past decade (p.293).
Personal: ‘Personalization’ is a trend that is closely associated with the advancement of computer
technology and social media. Everyone has a customized Instagram page, which we feel best
describes us. We put photos that we think best suits us. There is also the option of customizing
clothes, accessories, gadgets, and other merchandise that caters to our taste (p.295).
Mobile: The entire landscape and perception of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets
have changed. We carry a minicomputer in our pockets all the time. Although sales of smartphones
and tablets have declined steadily after 2017. The launch of 5G shortly is believed to revive the
sales and the market again (p.296)
Wearable: Wearables are computer technologies that one can wear in their body. Smartwatch,
Bluetooth, and many others are examples of wearables. It is one of the newest trends to dominate
our lives (p., 295).
Collaborative: We have now created space for people in our information systems world to come
together, interact, collaborate, and build a micro-community. For instance, the navigation app
Waze allows drivers and passengers to report any accident or police cars on the road. Everybody
else using the app, passing that road, will be able to see that (p.297)
Printable: 3-D printers are another breakthrough, cutting-edge technology that will rewrite the
rules of how we are going to build things. The technology in 3-D printers keep getting better and
better, and would be very interesting to see how it will unfold in the future (p.299)
Findable: Findable is one of the many new trends that has come as a result of growth in information
technology. Internet of Things (IoT) has made it possible to adjust the thermostat, switch on/off
lights, view the camera from a remote location through our smart devices (p.302)
Autonomous: The IT revolution has seeped into many other aspects of our lives. The most common
example being the auto-pilot mode in smart cars where the car will drive itself (p.305)
Secure: There are more dependable ways to secure our information and devices now. Encryption
has elevated cyber-security to another level (p.305)
Technology impacts society and culture: As mentioned above in societal trends, social media’s
blow-up in the past decade of our lives has changed the world’s cultural landscape. Now we all
have a duplicitous life, the real-life we live, and a social media life where we want others to believe
that as our real life. Like all things, social media has its upsides and downsides.
We think social media does an excellent job of connecting us with our families, friends,
society, and the world-at-large. However, social media also has a tight grip on our psyche to the
point where we have to post about ourselves and always check on others. Not only social media
but smartphones also have a tight grip on us. We look at our smartphones 150 times a day on
average (Bourgeous, Smith, Wang & Mortati, 2019). In other words, smartphones and other
devices have become our life support. We do not think we should let information technology
dictate our lives. IT should exist to improve our lives do not control.
