The aim of the Weekly Reading Assignments is to help students engage with the texts, and assess their preliminary understanding of the material under consideration. The weekly questions posed are not evaluative—meaning they do not ask for student opinions. They are designed to guide students through the weekly readings, and to focus their attention on the important concepts, themes, and theoretical positions of the weekly readings. Because they are designed to help students engage with the texts, responses to the weekly questions are graded Pass or Fail. To receive a Pass, please pay attention to the following:

• Weekly Reading Assignments consist of two reading comprehension questions and students must respond to both questions
• Responses should be single-spaced and consist of no more than 500 words for each question (about a half page each)
• Only the primary text under consideration is to be used — absolutely no secondary material
• No footnote or endnotes or quotations are required or desired
• Students are simply to respond to the question in their own words to the best of their ability
